Recommended Materials
Chemical Processing & Refining Sealing Performance & Engineering
Chemical processing plants handle a vast spectrum of aggressive media, including concentrated acids, caustic alkalis, chlorinated solvents, and aromatic hydrocarbons. A single seal failure can lead to hazardous chemical exposure and emergency environmental shutdowns.
Operating Challenges
- Aggressive Chemical Attack: Strong oxidizing acids (nitric, sulfuric, hydrochloric) rapidly degrade general-purpose rubber components.
- Thermal Expansion in Reactor Flanges: Mating flanges in reaction vessels undergo significant thermal cycling, requiring high gasket recovery.
- Solvent Permeation & Swell: Aromatic solvents (toluene, xylene) cause extreme volumetric swelling, leading to seal extrusion and blowouts.
Engineered Solutions
Fluoroelastomer (FKM / Viton®) Seals
Resists fuels, hydrocarbons, and medium-concentration acids up to 200°C.
PTFE-Encapsulated O-Rings
Seamless FEP/PFA fluoropolymer outer jacket enclosing a resilient silicone or Viton core, combining zero chemical reactivity with elastomeric bounce.
Solid PTFE & Modified Gaskets
Die-cut gaskets for ANSI Class 150 and 300 chemical process piping flanges.
